Thing 14

I really like the delicious site and I found it very easy to use. My delicious username is techqueen56 so you can see what I have bookmarked so far. I know this is one site I will use frequently. I will be able to organize my bookmarks as well as see what sites other elementary teachers are using. I am sure that this summer will be spent exploring delicious more and finding new sites to use next school year with my class.

Thing 13

I love the social bookmarking site. I use 3 different computers, my desktop, my laptop, and my school computer and as I find sites I love I bookmark them. This is great unless I am at school and I bookmarked the site on my desktop at home. My delicious account will make retrieving my bookmarks easier. I am excited to get started.
I read the article about putting tags on the sites so I will have to really think about tags that make sense for me.

Thing 12

This widget will be a lot of fun. After I posted it I had to play the game. I put my age is as 8, the age of my students and some of the questions were challenging.
I definitely will be using widgets more with my blogs and my class web page.

Thing 11

HELP  I tried to leave a comment on another 23Things participant's post but it kept going back to the login page.  I logged in again, typed in the security word, and then was redirected again to the login page.

I can see how commenting on student's work via a blog can be good and bad.  The good is the feedback to a person's writing but the bad is any hurtful and mean comments.  Words are very powerful and they alone without body language can lead to misinterpretation.   If I choose to use this method of peer editing then I really need to stress the need for caring, helpful comments not careless hurtful ones.

THING 10

In science we talk about the life cycle of a butterfly and while all the students know what it is, this video shows the stages.  I will use it as the starting point in talking about animals who go through a complete metamorphosis.  I see the value in embedding vidoes into blogs as it is a great way to share resources and other "great finds".

After I viewed my post I noticed that I forgot to uncheck the box that lists other related videos.  I will have to watch for that box next time.

Thing Number 9

This week I started teaching division with remainders to my class so I used the YouTube site to find videos or songs to make the learning easier.  I found several videos with songs that go through the process of long division.I downloaded one of the songs (http://www1.teachertube.com/viewVideo.php?video_id=96849&title=Karl_Roemer_and_The_Long_Division_Song) so I can use it in my classroom as YouTube access is denied in the building.  I also looked at TeacherTube and found the same song and lots of other good resources there.
I think YouTube is a great learning tool but there is also a lot of junk on it. It is amazing what people will do and post to get their 15 seconds of fame.

Thing 8

It is the end of the day and I found the photo mash up sites confusing as they were as cluttered as my brain. I did go to this site: Preview of comic font only!

KEEP STUDYING

keep studying

KEEP STUDYINGand put a quote on Albert Einstein.   I think it would fun to use famous people giving advice to the class.  I think I will use it next year when I am making a poster of the class rules. I tried to use the "spell with flickr" site but I wasn't copying the letters correctly and they wouldn't line up for me.  I also couldn't figure out how to start over with a new word...and  I had little patience to keep on playing with it.  I like straight forward easy to use sites.
Here is my picture and quote with Albert Einstein.  I chose it because there are a lot of tests coming up in class.
